Door Buying Guide

Since each door and opening may have different dimensions, we have structured our site to allow our shoppers maximum flexibility.

Door selection
We have three major door categories:

• Exterior/Entry Doors - All exterior doors are 100% solid wood, some have glass, some have glass and iron, but all are made with premium wood. Exterior doors are 1-3/4” thick. We have over 300 different styles, in various sizes from standard height of 6’-8’’ to 8’ tall. Some doors have matching sidelites, some doors are sold as a pair and some doors have arched tops. Detailed information can be found under each door’s specification.
• Interior Doors – Just like the exterior doors, all interior doors are made of 100% solid wood. We have a variety of styles, wood species and sizes to fit any opening. Interior doors in standard 6’-8’’ are normally 1-3/8” thick and 8’ doors are 1-3/4” thick (unless otherwise noted).
• French Doors - Our French doors are all TDL or True Divided lines, each glass panel is separate and individually glazed. All French doors and sidelites incorporate tempered safety glass for security. Most doors also feature double insulated glass, beveled glass, white laminated (lami) glass and low-E glass for increased energy efficiency. Our French doors are all 1-3/4” thick and may be used as exterior or interior doors.

All of our doors are sold unfinished, meaning that they are not pre-drilled or prepped for hinges, do not include jambs (except arched doors), hinges, or hardware.

All of our doors are sold a la carte. Be sure to add a pre-hung option for each door that requires it, as well as sidelites and transoms as needed.

If you plan on replacing an existing door without changing your door frame, consider the door’s thickness, as well as the width and the height.

Pre-hung Selection
Pre-Hung doors are assembled to your specifications, combining the best features of each component. Each door is custom pre-hung to achieve an ideal fit and proper alignment.

3. Select the pre-hung configuration that matches your door height and wood species.
4. Assign door swing, handing orientation and options – Pre-hung doors come pre-hinged, but you will need to specify the color of the hinges, sill, door shoe, weather-stripping and pre-drill for lockset.See our pre-hung order form:
